Abstract
A portrait is drawn of the agronomist, veterinarian and expert in
Genetics. Born in Bergara (Gipuzkoa) and trained in Germany, he went on to
study in other European countries and the United States. After his return, he
centred his entire career in Galicia, where he founded and became the director
of the “Misión Biológica de Galicia” (Galician Centre for Biology). He
was most known for his contributions in the area of plant (mainly maize)
and animal genetics, working to better the porcine livestock. He studied Veterinary
Science in the former Veterinary School of Santiago. In 1932 he was named
President of the Higher Council for Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture.
