Abstract
The author describes the geographical setting of the Zumaia, comprising the Guipuzcoa town, and mentions its economic development, the main buildings and the most representative personalities.
Based on the Meat Inspection Regulation of 1859, which called for the presence of a veterinarian at every abattoir, the author provides a biographical sketch of the different municipal veterinarians in charge of an important area of public health in both towns —animal health care and nutrition.
