Abstract
In this paper the municipal laws of the council of Placencia –nowadays Soraluze/Placencia de las Armas– are transcribed, which have been dated year 1526. This book of laws is, in essence, an amended text version of the capitulations that ruled the mentioned council in 1499, as can be seen in its introduction. Basically, the majority of the articles conform to the reality of the times, specially clarifying concepts and modifying punishments; on the other hand, newly coined articles are added, such as the ones relating to the consumption of log by the ovenmen or the prevention of the “landre” or the bubonic plague, that had taken place in the village in the first decade of the 16 th century. In addition, and before the transcription, there is a brief notice of the team responsible for the composition of this book of laws, with special emphasis on its composer, the scrivener Juan García de Uribarri.
