Abstract
We clarify and document the nature and origin of the shackled king which forms part of the coat of arms of Anzuola, freeing it from the legendary interpretations which have grown up around this heraldic figure. We also clarify and document that Alberto Pérez de Régil was responsible for the capture of French artillery in the sierra of Velate in 1512, whose cannons appear on the coat of arms of Gipuzkoa in 1513.
