Abstract
Doctor in Medicine and Surgery; member of the Royal Society of Friends of the Basque Country and the Royal Academy of Medicine; Director of the Provincial Health Board, Deputy Mayor of San Sebastián and founder of the Red Cross in Guipuzcoa.
In the 1st Carlist war, he was the assistant surgeon for three years at the military hospital in San Sebastián. At the end of the war, he studied medicine and surgery in Madrid. He gains his degree in medicine in 1846. In 1850, he obtains the post of surgeon in the city of Tudela. In 1870, he returns to San Sebastián and in July founds the Red Cross of Guipuzcoa. During the last Carlist war, he is the director of the Red Cross ambulance in San Sebastián, which played an important role. In 1893, he left a legacy in his will so that with his estate a prize could be given periodically for the best work about medical matters presented in Guipuzcoa.
